Use and sale of Chinese manjha prohibited for next two months in Mandsaur

Mandsaure (Madhya Pradesh): The Mandsaur District Administration in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday ordered a ban on the production, sale and use of Chinese manjha, nylon or synthetic thread to fly kites during the festivities of Makar Sankranti, calling it dangerous to human life, birds, animals and harmful to the environment.

The ban will be in effect in the district, some 340 km from the state capital, for the next two months or until further notice, the official said.

People, especially children and youth, practice kites during the Makar Sankranti festival on January 14, according to the order issued by district collector Gautam Singh.

But it is necessary to ban the use of synthetic yarn or Chinese manjha because it is harmful to the environment and creates a danger for humans, birds and animals.

Thus, the manufacture, storage, sale and use of Chinese manjha or synthetic yarn is prohibited under article 144 of the CrPC and its violation may lead to prosecution under article 188 of the Criminal Code. Indian (IPC) (disobedience to the order duly promulgated by an official), says the order.
