This tour is part of the Texarkana Museum System’s ongoing life history program, developed to provide a more personal perspective on history.

Living history artists give tour guests a different understanding of local history,” says TMS curator Jamie Simmons. “When you hear costumed actors talking about past events as if they were alive, reading the facts on the map adds a dimension that is missing. Bring history to life. I will leave you. ”

Judith and Larry White will play trailblazers Rachel and David Moore at Rose Hill Cemetery on May 3.

On your June 5 visit, you’ll experience Texarkana’s beginnings at the Sacred Heart, one of the city’s oldest cemeteries. This cemetery is one of the few cemeteries in Bowie County to be granted Historic Texas Cemetery status. The oldest tomb dates back to 1875 and is the last sleeping place for RW Rogers’ daughter, Agnes Rogers. In 1876, the land was donated to the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart and used as a designated cemetery for the church.

Among those buried are some of the city’s founders. He is one of the first settlers of Texarkana, most of whom were immigrants to the United States, demonstrating the rich cultural diversity of Texarkana.

“Texarkana was a melting pot of races across the world,” added Simmons. “All of these new citizens brought their own cultural and religious customs here to Texarkana, adding another dimension to our heritage.”

Tickets must be purchased in advance! The cost is $ 15 and $ 10 for TMS members. Tickets are on sale at TexarkanaMuseums.org/events. There is no parking in the cemetery during the visit. You can park on nearby Spruce Street and walk to the main gate. Please call for directions to the nearest parking lot. For more information, please call 903-793-4831.
