Shantell Martin outlines her 10 home essentials | Architectural Summary

AD presents the Clever Guest Edit, a shopping series in which our favorite design enthusiasts share the products and collectibles that bring their homes to life. This week’s special guest is visual artist Shantell Martin. Get the exclusive on what’s top of her wishlist here, and don’t forget to subscribe to the Clever newsletter to receive these choices directly in your inbox each month.

As a cultural facilitator and innovator, Shantell Martin is dedicated to the pursuit of creative endeavours. Earlier this year, the groundbreaking artist delved into the metaverse with the Potion Bottles for Some.place collection. kites, his latest collaboration with the Boston Ballet, is a celebration of memory through contemporary movement. Part of the ChoreograpHer program, the choreographed ballet explores the creation of new landscapes of time, emotion and line.

When it comes to interior design, Shantell is not afraid to think outside the box and explore the dimensions of an interior. Although she’s widely known for her black-and-white drawings, sketches, and murals, you might be surprised to see playful pops of color in her home spaces in New York and Los Angeles. “For me, interior design is really personal,” she explains. “I really like being very organized and functional while finding unique and fun ways to explore and enhance environments.”

Since Shantell’s works challenge viewers to disconnect the objects of admiration from their creation, it only makes sense that the pieces she surrounds herself with are equally captivating. Amid her busy schedule, Shantell took the time to share the 10 items that make her feel most at home.

“I recently secured a place in Los Angeles and really love my Floyd table. It’s fresh, clean and I really appreciate Floyd’s sustainability philosophy.

Shantell Crew – Bird Boat

“I really started to focus on my Shantell clothing collection over the last year. After working with other brands on collaborations, it felt like a natural evolution. I’ve lived in my Bird Boat crewneck, especially in LA where that’s kind of all you need in the winter months.
