Middletown High School officials have confiscated several knives from students in recent days. The students have been suspended and the weapons are in custody.

Administrators held a staff meeting on Thursday morning, September 16, to brief teachers and ask them to be extra vigilant and report any suspicions.

“Over the past few days, the MHS administrative team has confiscated four small knives from various students. The knives were about three inches long, ”Principal Jeff Heath said in an emailed statement to teachers and staff.

Heath stressed the importance of vigilance and an emphasis on the safety of the school community. “Middletown High School takes these situations very seriously. To that end, any student who {is} found in possession of a weapon on the Middletown High School campus or at a Middletown High School event will be penalized as much as possible, ”the statement said.

School officials report that there was no indication of a direct threat to other students or staff and that this was an isolated incident.
