Huishan Zhang is arming her young female clients with a wardrobe full of haute couture-inspired dresses for when the world truly opens up — bows in hand. These are women having a good time. Not only do they have a keen eye for high-quality detail, which Zhang says he honed, but they want a personal touch to their evening wear. As such, ahead of Fall 2022, Zhang is pairing feathered tweed dresses with combat boots and candy tulle numbers with sporty latex headbands.
“The garment is inseparable from the wearer,” said Zhang, who clearly feeds off her customers’ enthusiasm for this new era of “mix and match” fashion. “She channels new energy and creates her own modern look.”
The future looks especially bright for this powerhouse Zhang fan, with pops of lilac, blue and yellow permeating the edit. Denim, too, brings freshness to evening silhouettes, while the crystal-sequined shirt is enhanced by several shimmering sweaters of the same ilk.
The lookbook’s dramatic poses evoke 1940s Hollywood glamor – “a model appears to be about to sing,” Zhang commented. Awards season is tentatively kicking off, and you can easily imagine celebrity designers turning to this brand for drama-serving dresses. Zhang, who doubles down on her art, wants to make the most of it.
