Ely Chapman Summer Programs, Kids Get Involved in the Community
MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) — The Ely Chapman Education Foundation summer programs begin today.
Students entering kindergarten and eighth grade are in the educational foundation learning STEAM programs.
Ely Chapman Executive Director Lori Ullman says educators at the center want to prepare children for the school year ahead and get them interested in science, technology, engineering, art and math .
Ullman also says that educating children is not the only focus, as the center will also seek to involve children in the community and take pride in the community.
“We hope that by doing intergenerational opportunities – obviously with the O’Neill Center – that they will hear these stories, they will see history alive in front of them. The chances that they will stay as they continue to grow, because that we’re going into eighth grade to continue to be in our community. And to become active members of that community because they’re proud of it. We know those chances are increasing,” Ullman says.
Students will also participate in field trips, including one of the centre’s favorites, the “Butterfuly Experience” at Thomson’s Landscaping.
The center also offers free meals for all children under 18.
