Copshop trailer features Gerard Butler as a professional hitman hunting Frank Grillo

While most people can think of Ps i love you or The Phantom of the Opera when they think of Gerard Butler, most of his career has been spent playing difficult characters – like Terry Sheridan in Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life or Mike Banning in the Fell trilogy, and its upcoming role in Copshop is no different, as teased by the movie trailer. Copshop hits theaters in September.

In case you didn’t know, “copshop” refers to a police station, according to the Urban Dictionary, which makes perfect sense considering Copshop much of it seems … to take place in a police station. Butler plays a hitman named Bob Viddick, who was tasked with hunting down con artist Teddy Muretto (Franck Grillo) – but Teddy decided to get arrested to escape the hitman’s crosshairs. This plan will only work for a very long time, especially once Viddick manages to get thrown in jail too, and that’s all before a rival assassin arrives on the scene to finish what Viddick should have ended.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Ripping through the Nevada desert in a bullet-riddled Crown Vic, cunning con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) hatches a desperate plan to hide from hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler). He punches rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) to get arrested and locked up in a small town police station. The prison cannot protect Murretto for long, and Viddick makes his own way into detention, biding his time in a nearby cell until he can complete his mission. When the arrival of a competing assassin (Toby Huss) unleashes utter chaos, growing threats force Viddick to get creative if he is to finish the job and escape the explosive situation.
