Avon Garden Club is planting seeds for an adults-only Easter egg hunt
AVON, Ohio – Kids are always thrilled when the Easter Bunny is coming. But the Avon Garden Club also has adults jumping for joy.
Why? Because the club will be bringing back its adult-only Easter Egg Hunt on April 9.
The event is a fundraiser for scholarships, according to scholarship committee chair Cynthia Murnyack-Czarnecki.
“The scholarships are available for high school students residing in Avon who will be majoring in a program of study aligned with the mission of the Avon Garden Club,” she said.
“Only individuals with proposed academic studies in agriculture, botany, forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or natural resources are eligible for this scholarship.”
Proceeds from the 2022 Adults Only Easter Egg Hunt “will benefit our scholarship program. Through our scholarship program, we encourage and support high school students…as they study and pursue careers in fields that align with the mission of the Avon Garden Club,” she said.
At the start of the pandemic, the club organized a drive-through version of the egg hunt. But this year, Murnyack-Czarnecki said, “we’re doing a full-fledged field run at Veterans Memorial Park to hunt the eggs. It looks like a blast.
She noted that there will be over 900 eggs to find. One in 20 eggs wins a special prize. There will also be a 50/50 raffle for a gas grill donated by the Avon Lowe’s store, and the Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos.
“We are a gardening club,” Murnyack-Czarnecki said. “Among our other community service projects, we undertake beautification projects, such as the maintenance and seasonal decoration of a garden at Miller Nature Preserve and the garden and gazebo at Heritage Park.
“We are also adding charm and enhancing the look of the city with plantings in the deck boxes on Detroit Road.
“We love being outdoors and we encourage people to be outdoors to appreciate and enjoy nature. We are sponsoring this event to bring the community together for a fun outdoor event, to publicize the availability of the scholarship program, and to encourage interested parties to apply for the scholarship.
“What better way to do that than to bring the community together in one of our city’s beautiful parks for a festive outdoor event?”
She also thanked the city for helping with the event.
“We appreciate the generosity of the City of Avon as they allow us to engage the community through the use of the multi-purpose facilities at Veterans Memorial Park to host our 2022 adults-only Easter Egg Hunt.”
Those wishing to apply for the scholarships should email [email protected] for an application and then send it to the Avon Garden Club Scholarship Committee, PO Box 213, Avon, OH 44011.
