A three-day kite fair pays homage to Nazrul

A three-day kite fair honoring national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam ended on Friday at Jhitka Poddar Bari in Harirampur upazila, Manikganj.

The fair was organized by the National Folk Literature Collection and Research Center to celebrate the 123rd birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The District Awami League Chairman’s lawyer, Golam Mohiuddin, inaugurated the fair as the main guest while Babu Haripad Sutradhar gave the opening speech.

In addition, theater activist Abul Kalam Azad, playwright Asadul Islam Asad, general secretary of Harirampur upazila Awami League Dewan Abdur Rob, former vice president of Harirampur upazila Abul Bashar Sabuj, journalist JE Akash and the upazila nirbahi officer of Harirampur Md Saiful Islam among others were present as guests at the event.

The event was jointly anchored by Mamun Chowdhury and Ariful Islam.

Hundreds of people participated and exhibited different types of traditional kites namely Patenga, Chila, Koira, Dhol, Manush, Baz, Pakhi and others.

In addition, a discussion program was held on Wednesday at the premises of Teota Zamindar Bari in Shivalaya upazila.

Manikganj district administration organized the program.

Dignitaries and organizers honored Nazrul by placing a wreath in front of her portrait.

Later, a cultural program was held at the site.

Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Latif was present as the main guest at the event, which was chaired by Additional Assistant Commissioner Sanwarul Haque.

Former University of Dhaka Professor Niranjan Adhikari delivered the keynote address for the programme.
